Elementary School Student Council
All classes from Grade 1 through o Grade 6 are represented on our Student Council. The Council is set up to listen to students' views on our school and actively engage them in some decisions about school life.
The purpose of the Council is:
How is the Student Council Organised?
We have one student representative from each class, Grade 1 to Grade 6. These representatives are elected by their class friends and serve for 1 term of an academic year. A class teacher and the Vice-Principal Pastoral lead the Students Council.
This means that we have 30 children on the Student Council. The Council meets once every two weeks, and each meeting can focus on different aspects of school life, for example, Litter in the Playground, School Events, or Canteen Food.
Recent actions have included running a campaign to improve how students move around our school. Students also designed new Student Council badges.
How is the Student Council Organised
The Senior School Student Council are the High School student leaders of SJI International. Nominated by their peers and with the support of their teachers, prospective Senior Council members are required to give election speeches and canvas votes in ways that rival even Presidential Elections. Voting is highly organised, and the outgoing Senior Council are charged with carefully counting the votes. The newly-elected team then retreats to decide on the specific roles for each Council member and to set the direction for the year ahead. As true Student Leaders, their vision and their rallying of students create a special atmosphere: the SJI International Senior School (Grades 11 and 12).
Events Organised by Student Council
They work on various events, including Hair for Hope and Beautiful Lengths, which sees the SJI International community band together to show solidarity and support for young Singaporeans battling cancer. With an overwhelming number of participants, including teachers and students, this event has raised $120,000 for the Children’s Cancer Foundation. There is also an annual Blood Donation Drive, where more than 100 staff and students support the cause and donate. The Senior Council also organises other events for the Senior School, such as Welcome Week and the annual Prom, aiming to give the new Grade 11s a pleasant start to a difficult two years and the Grade 12s a satisfying end to the challenging IB course, respectively.
