ONCE A LASALLIAN

Our SJI International alumni community is strong and remains connected globally.

Welcome To Our Elementary School

We are a Lasallian school and are proud of the Catholic ethos and heritage that can be traced back to 1852 when St Joseph's Institution was founded by the De La Salle Brothers in Singapore.

Set in a beautiful green and central location on Thomson Rd, the Elementary School caters for children from Prep 1 (Aged 4) to Grade 6 (Aged 12). The programmes within our curriculum offer best practices and are recognised worldwide for their high quality and effectiveness. In mathematics, students use the Singapore Mathematics programme to build strong basic knowledge and skills and develop problem-solving and higher-order thinking skills. In Language Arts, teaching and learning are based on the Common Core State Standards. Reading starts with phonemic awareness and phonics and moves to more complex word study and comprehension.

Students also learn the author's craft as they experience writing in a range of genres.
The International Primary Curriculum and International Middle Years Curriculum both offer challenging units of study through which students learn key Science and Humanities concepts and knowledge. These units are inquiry- and research-based and offer many opportunities for experiential learning. Chinese is offered to all as a compulsory subject at varying levels of difficulty. We have recently added Spanish as an option for our Upper Elementary Students. The curriculum above is also offered through our Bilingual Programme, which is currently available to students in Lower Elementary. This programme offers students the opportunity to learn Mandarin and English and to deeply understand each culture and their way of thinking.

Specialist teaching is offered by trained staff in Music, Art, Physical Education and Religious and Moral Education (RME). This holistic approach allows our students to find their strengths and passions and develop a sense of self-efficacy. In addition to music lessons and grade-level performances, students can join additional musical groups through the CCA programme. Yearly Art Exhibitions showcase work across the school, and a highlight of our PE programmes is Sports Days and Swim Galas. Students are also actively involved in the Singapore ACSIS  sports leagues, which our school strongly represents. Developing a sense of resilience and well-being is paramount to our student's success, as is the support given to our Grade 6 students, who nearly all transition to the High School for Grade 7. As a result, SJI International is seen as providing an outstanding education as an 'all-through' school for children aged 4 to 18.

At SJI International Elementary School, students, teachers and parents have created a close-knit and welcoming community. If you want to join us and enrol your child at the school, please visit our wonderful community in person.
