Is there a direct pathway for children in Preschool to the Elementary school?

Children who have attended SJI International Preschool have priority admission to the Elementary School. However, this is subject to the Eligibility Criteria being met.

What is the difference between SJI International Preschool and SJI International Elementary School?

Both schools differ in curriculum, hours, and schedules. The Preschool offers an inquiry-based approach to learning and has extended hours with limited closures, making it ideal for working parents. The Elementary School provides a structured academic curriculum on a term-based schedule.

Does the school accept children of all faiths/religion?

St. Joseph’s Institution International Preschool offers a holistic, values-driven and international educational experience with a Catholic and Lasallian foundation. Our community welcomes students, teachers, parents, friends and supporters of all faiths and cultural backgrounds.

How do parents stay informed about what their children are doing at school?

Elementary School offers 2 Parent-Teacher Conferences (PTC) per year. Reports are sent home twice a year. Parents are encouraged to contact the Class Teacher for any concerns.

What is the average class size and how many classes are in each year group?

The class sizes in Elementary School range from approximately 22 to 23 students.

What CCAs are offered?

Elementary School offers a range of CCAs for children from Prep 1 to Grade 6. They can choose from Sports, Visual Arts, Performing Arts, Academics, Environment, ICT and more. Catechism classes are also offered across all grades, as well as an extensive range of instrumental music lessons and tutoring in several languages, including Spanish. In addition to the CCA programme, the PE Department runs a wide range of sporting teams, while the Music Department runs several ensembles, including string and choir.

Which curriculum do you follow?

The Elementary School provides the International Primary Curriculum (IPC), Singapore Math and a modified MoE (Singapore Ministry of Education) Chinese programme from Prep 1 to Grade 6 for our Mainstream programme and the Bilingual Programme Curriculums including IPC, Singapore Math, Chinese Language following the China National Curriculum and follows the Two Way Immersion (TWI) education (50/50) model.

What is the admissions timeline to know whether my child is accepted into SJI International Elementary School?

We try to offer places for the start of each term. However, applicants in the Admissions Pool may be notified of a mid-term vacancy.

Prep 1 and Prep 2 typically fall in April/May. Our recommendation is for families, where possible, to apply to Prep 1 as this it the main entry point to our school.

When do admissions open for Elementary School?

All grades for the academic year are full.

Families are encouraged to apply for the upcoming academic year. You can apply 2 years before the expected start date of enrolment. Our friendly admissions team is happy to assist with any questions and guide you through the application process.

Applications should be submitted with complete documentation and the non-refundable application fee.

Is there a waitlist?

For the Elementary School, you can apply up to 2 years ahead of the desired year of intake. All applicants will be placed into the Admissions Pool for the respective application grade. Applicants from the Admissions Pool will be considered for places as they become available. Our main entry point for the Elementary School is for Prep 1 and Grade 1 each year. For all other grades, places are subject to availability.

In order to be considered for admission, we encourage you to apply early.

Is there an entrance assessment?

We are academically selective, and all children must pass an entrance assessment. Prep 1 to Grade 1 may/will undertake an observation assessment, and Grade 2 to Grade 6 the entrance assessment features computerised testing in English Language, Mathematics and Developed IQ, along with an interview. We cannot admit a wide spectrum of children with special educational needs as we do not have the resources to support them. If your child has received learning support in the past, you may wish to contact us for more information.

What is your admission procedure?

Step 1
Refer to our Age Boundary Chart to verify the grade that your child is eligible for and examine our admissions criteria.

Step 2
Attend our Open House sessions or contact Elementary School Admissions for more information.

Step 3
Submit an online application after checking and confirming eligibility.

Step 4
The school evaluates all applications against our admissions criteria. We carry out additional assessments and may invite your child for an interview.

Step 5
Parents are informed of the school's decision. Offers will be communicated to successful applicants. Unsuccessful applicants will be notified of the outcome.

Step 6
Applicants who are not shortlisted will remain in our Admissions Pool until a place becomes available. Application is automatically moved on to the next Grade and year until the end of Term 1, Grade 6.

How is your admissions priority set?

We are a Lasallian Catholic school in an international setting. We aim to enrol children who can fully participate in the life of the school through our mission statement, ethos and heritage.

We strive to keep families together, however, as availability is dependent on withdrawals, siblings may not be offered a place at the same time.

Can Singapore Citizens (including dual passport holders) apply to the Elementary School?

Singapore Citizens require approval from MOE to attend a Foreign System School such as SJI International Elementary School. Due to current Singapore Government regulations and the limitation on places available for the enrolment of Singapore Citizens, we are not able to accept applications for admission. Please contact the Admissions Department should you require further information.

Can children with learning difficulties attend SJI International?

Is there a school bus service?
  • Two way transport is available only for Elementary School students. Please email the bus service at: SJIIES@tongtar.com

Is there a parent support group in SJI International?

Yes. Our EPSG (Elementary Parent Support Group) is active in the school. They help the school run various events throughout the year, including Sports Day and the Christmas Fair.

Are there meal plans for students?

At our Preschool on Holland Rd, children are served breakfast, lunch and afternoon tea daily, included in the school fees. Meals are delivered by our halal-certified caterer.

Our food solutions partner, Chartwells, is dedicated to serving our students happy and healthy meals at our Thomson campus. Chartwells’ team of chefs and registered dietitians curate delicious and nutritious menus offering a balance of plant-based and protein options, all prepared with healthier methods to fuel growing bodies.

Are there allergen-controlled meals for the students?

Chartwells prioritises the safety and wellbeing of all students with a comprehensive food allergy management programme. They operate allergen-controlled kitchens, excluding tree nuts, peanuts, crustaceans, molluscs, and sesame from their ingredients. Furthermore, all Chartwells staff undergo rigorous training in handling special dietary needs and food allergens. This ensures every meal is prepared with the utmost care and adheres to the highest safety standards to accommodate students with allergies and dietary restrictions.

Tell me about your campus and facilities

Our state-of-the-art facilities on Thomson Rd undergo continuous enhancements to ensure optimal resources for our students. The school boasts over 80 classrooms, a versatile indoor hall, art and music rooms, Digital Technologies suites, offices, and libraries. Additionally, we offer an IB Student Centre, well-equipped science laboratories, IT and music technology resources, a dynamic drama black box, The Lawrence da Silva Sports Complex featuring a 25-meter swimming pool and indoor sports hall, a fitness room, rock climbing wall, outdoor basketball and tennis courts, sports fields, and a Chapel. All classrooms are equipped with LCD projectors and feature air-conditioning for a comfortable learning environment.

What academic programmes are followed by SJI International?

The Elementary School follows the Singaporean curriculum for maths and the International Primary Curriculum (IPC) and caters to all children from Prep 1-2 and Grades 1-6 (ages 4-12), while the High School admits both Singaporean and international students in Grades 7-12 (ages 12-18). Students work towards their IGCSEs and the IB Diploma.
