We aim to provide opportunities for all students to participate in various activities by engaging them in regular movement-based learning experiences. At SJI International High School, students develop knowledge, skills and attitudes to understand and appreciate the significance of their personal, cultural and social well-being. Challenging and meaningful activities are designed to prepare students for a successful and healthy future.
Curriculum Overview
All students in grades 7 to 10 engage in weekly core Physical Education lessons. Our students participate in a wide and varied curriculum on development and performance alongside coaching and leadership opportunities. As students progress through school, they develop their knowledge and understanding of techniques, tactics and skills.
Our students can opt for Cambridge IGCSE Physical Education in grades 9 and 10, where they develop knowledge, skills and an understanding of a range of relevant physical activities. In the examinations, students' knowledge, skills and understanding come from studying both practical and theoretical aspects of Physical Education. In Grade 11, students can opt to study standard and higher level Sports, Exercise and Health Science as part of the Group 4 Science IB Diploma course.
Our Approach to Learning
Our students learn the essential skills and concepts of activities in Physical Education lessons. Our well-qualified, specialist teachers are dedicated to delivering a quality educational experience that meets the needs of all learners. Experiences from Elementary/Primary School are built upon, contributing to the comprehensive education, health and well-being of the individual student. This encourages students to develop confidence and commitment to PE and sport within the school and the wider community.
Students experience a range of individual, partner and team experiences where they can achieve and improve in planning, performing and evaluating physical performances. Our programme also allows them to monitor and improve their fitness levels. In addition to continuing to develop their physical performance as they move up through the school, students can improve their officiating, coaching and leadership skills safely and responsibly.
The curriculum complements the extensive activities programme, which supports students as they continue to reach their maximum potential in some sports while providing opportunities for them to experience and enjoy an ever-increasing range of competitive, creative and challenging activities.
We aim to instil a lifelong enjoyment and appreciation of PE and sport and develop an understanding of how PE and sports contribute to a balanced, healthy and active lifestyle.
