SJI International hosts first-ever LawCon

SJI International hosted its inaugural student-led Law Conference (LawCon) on Saturday, 13 August, with 120 students and staff in attendance.

Attendees included High School students from SJI International, SJI Independent, Anglo-Chinese School (International) and Hwa Chong Institution International.

LawCon featured speeches from Professor Arif A. Jamal, Vice Dean of Graduate Affairs and Law faculty member at the National University of Singapore and Mr Gregory Chew, Chief Legal Officer at Nanyang Technological University.

Their speeches were followed by an intense Mock Trial competition where students put their debating & critical thinking skills to the test, simulating court procedure in an academic setting.

The conference marked the beginning of SJII LawCon and more opportunities for students to immerse themselves in the field of law as they look forward to pursuing a potential career in the legal profession.

Assistant Principal for Enrichment Ms Amy Lucas said: “Our very first LawCon event went exceptionally well due to the thorough planning, organisation and dedication of the LawCon Executive Team, who spent many months planning the event. There were many highlights of the day, including the keynote speeches from Prof Jamal and Mr Chew. Delegates had the opportunity to ask questions and gain more knowledge about starting a career path in Law. I am so proud of our students and their achievements; I'm hopeful this event will run for many years.”

Well done to the SJII LawCon Executive Team led by Diya (President) and Rayan, Janine and Samyra (Event Managers).
