SJI International is proud to announce that our Elementary School has been awarded the Singapore Kopsia Award at the 2025 School Green Awards (SGA). Organised by the Singapore Environment Council, this prestigious recognition celebrates the school’s holistic approach to environmental stewardship and its commitment to fostering sustainable habits in our students.
The Singapore Kopsia Award is presented to schools that achieve an overall sustainability score of 65% to 79%. This milestone reflects a dedicated effort across the campus to integrate green practices into daily school life, from resource management to environmental education.
Central to the Elementary School’s sustainability initiatives is the Sensory Garden, a dedicated green space designed to connect students with the natural world. Far more than just a garden, it serves as a quiet sanctuary and a living classroom.
Designed for exploration, the garden features winding paths, lush garden beds, and a river bed that mimics natural water systems. It has become a thriving habitat for many small creatures, providing students with a unique, hands-on environment to observe biodiversity and ecosystems in action.
Through the Sensory Garden, our young learners are encouraged to slow down and use their senses to explore nature, developing a deep-seated respect for the environment. These experiences are vital in nurturing "Eco-Stewards" who understand the importance of preserving the planet for future generations.
Receiving the Singapore Kopsia Award is a testament to the collective efforts of our students, staff, and the wider school community. Whether through classroom learning, gardening projects, or reducing waste, every member of the Elementary School has played a role in this achievement.
As we look ahead in 2026, the school remains committed to building upon this success. We will continue to expand our sustainability programmes and find new, innovative ways to live out our values of service and care for the environment.
