On 29th January, the SJI International community gathered for the annual Scholarship Awards Dinner - an evening dedicated to celebrating our 2026 scholarship recipients and the transformative power of education.
The High School Assembly Hall was transformed into a space of pride and gratitude as High School Principal Mr Bradley Bird, Scholarship Committee Chairman Mr Kenneth Li, and Director of Admissions, Scholarships and Philanthropy Mrs Maria Ciola took to the stage to present scholarship scrolls to 24 outstanding students.
A highlight of the evening was the heartfelt reflections shared by the scholars, who spoke movingly about their transformative journeys at SJI International and the impact of the Scholarship Programme on their lives.
Huy, a Grade 12 Foreign Scholar from Vietnam, described the significance of his scholarship:
“What this scholarship has brought goes far beyond access to opportunities. It has given me belonging. It has given me confidence. I have learned so many things, both inside and outside of the classroom, that I’m not sure I could have found anywhere else. SJI International has given me the environment and all the support I need to thrive, explore my interests, and determine how I want to contribute to the world.”
Emma, a Grade 12 Foreign Scholar from Indonesia, also shared her powerful experience:
“The Scholarship Programme has offered me something far more profound than access to world-class universities. It has changed my life by giving me a home where I learn what it means to have faith in God, show respect for others, live out the spirit of service, and pursue excellence alongside a community that’s always there for you.”
The evening was further enhanced by outstanding musical performances from students. Grade 8 student Emily captivated the audience with a beautiful guzheng performance, while Grade 12 Academic Scholar Joshua and Javi delivered a heartfelt rendition of ‘You’ve Got a Friend in Me’.
In a moving cultural tribute, five Grade 12 scholars from Indonesia - Abigail, Emma, Jessie, Tiffany, and Valerie - took to the stage to perform a mash-up of two iconic songs in their native language. ‘Laskar Pelangi’ tells the story of students who persevere against all odds, while ‘Tujuh Belas’ offers a nostalgic reflection on the friendships that define the teenage years.
The programme was expertly hosted by emcees Grade 12 Academic Scholar Miguel and Grade 11 Foreign Scholar Los, whose warmth and professionalism guided the evening seamlessly.
More than a celebration of academic excellence, the dinner was a testament to the strength of the SJI International community. Parents, staff, donors, and friends came together to enjoy a delightful dinner catered by the Tung Lok Group.
SJI International extends its heartfelt thanks to donors, whose generosity continues to provide life-changing educational opportunities. The Scholarship Programme would not be possible without their unwavering support.
