All Saints and Souls 2025

This Saturday, 1st November, the Church celebrates the Feast of All Saints. At SJI International we frequently speak of Saints, like St. Joseph, for whom the school is named; St. John Baptist de La Salle, the Founder of the De La Salle Brothers and Patron Saint of Teachers; and Saints Benilde, Mutien, Jaime, and Miguel, for whom our four Houses are named. Solomon Hall is named in honour of our newest Lasallian saint, St. Solomon. They are among the hundreds of holy men and women who the Church recognises and honours as Saints. All Saints Day, on the other hand, gives us an opportunity to celebrate the many holy men and women who have not been canonised or formally recognised as Saints, - but who are saints, indeed, but whose faithfulness and holiness may be known to God alone.

All Saints Day is followed by a day called All Souls Day, which this year is Sunday, 2nd November, when we remember our family members and loved ones who have passed. It has been nearly one year since the SJI International community suffered the painful loss of one of our own students, Jenna Chan. We honour her memory and the memory of these young people who have died while students at our school, and one young man who passed away not long after his graduation.

Eternal rest grant unto them O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. May the souls of the faithfully departed rest in peace.

Each year during the month of November members of the Singapore Lasallian family are invited to an annual Mass of Remembrance, which is celebrated in memory of the deceased members of our school communities and our own families. This year the Mass of Remembrance will be held on Saturday, 8th November, at 5:00pm in the Chapel of St. Patrick’s School, 490 East Coast Road. You and your family are most welcome to join other members of the Singapore Lasallian family for this Mass.

As we observe these holy days over the weekend, I hope you will tell stories about and lovingly remember loved ones who have passed away, all the while celebrating the saints of your families.
